A native South Carolinian, I left behind my potato-picking, corn shucking, molasses swiggin' roots to head out to Santa Cruz, CA. Once there, I entrenched myself in the tech world. But I realized I was giving up the dream for something that wasn't quite me, so I whacked away at the shackles that kept me chained to a desk and burst forth into the theatrical world of the Bay Area.
Through the encouragement of a friend, I started studying voice over. It was at The Voice Factory that I met Joan Spangler, who would become my San Francisco agent. I had doubts about starting this new career, but she reminded me that everything happens in its time and that I wouldn’t have had the life experiences to draw from 10 years earlier that I have now. I’m here for a reason.
A sudden realization: showbiz is my destiny.
But I knew that if I wanted to make a living in this business, I needed to venture outside of my the Bay Area, so I went exploring. NY or LA?? I was in NY auditioning when Michael Donovan’s office called to book me on Great Expectations: The Musical, to be directed by the acclaimed Jules Aaron in Los Angeles. I put it out there and the winds of fate chose L.A. So I moved.
Shortly after heading to L.A., I auditioned and became a studio guide on the historic Universal lot. I was also featured in the NBC Universal Showcase for upcoming talent.
In less than a year of moving to Hollywood, I booked and shot my first television role on How I Met Your Mother, opposite Neil Patrick Harris. Since then, I've been on Modern Family (opposite Ty Burrell & Ed O'Neill), Off Their Rockers (opposite the legendary Betty White), Save Me (opposite Anne Heche), The Neighbors (opposite Toks Olagundoye). Now, I'm series regular in On the Rocks, the first multicam web series with a live audience. Groundbreaking!
On stage, I’ve starred as Dave in 3 different Equity productions of The Full Monty, as Wemmick/Pumblechook in Great Expectations: The Musical (Nominated for LA Weekly Theatre Award for Best Musical and Best Adaptation), in the West Coast Premier of Tennessee Williams' A House Not Meant to Stand at the Fountain Theatre and so much more. I'm also an avid voice over artist and writer. And I'm also a photographer.
In this blog, I'll post my random musings and favorite photos.
Welcome to Hollywood my way. Welcome to Highlywood Photography!
